Romantic Work as Literary Historical Interpretation
Using the example of the works by the poet Janko Kráľ, the author models themechanism of interpretation of a romantic work by literary historians and editors through several contemporary concretisations. Each generation of literary historians rewrites and accentuates the layers of meaning corresponding to the contemporary concept of an aesthetic object. Such updates of a poet's work often enter into contradictions and further reinforce the significant inner heterogeneity and ideological antagonisms of the poet's work as well as the changing impact of his aesthetic and ideological approach to the overall picture of Romanticism. Each new edition of texts by Kráľ is thus a major event, transforming literary history configurations and rewriting not only the map of Romanticism as a literary movement, but also the shape of the Romantic tradition and its subsequent updates.
