Small / Big: Upadate und Innovation in Relationship between Glass Engravers and Subjects of their Work

In the 19th century, world- and regionally famous paintings often became models for hand-crafted works. Sometimes they were copied without major changes, but at other times, as in the case of Czech glass engravers, they also served as inspiration and encouraged the search for innovative craft and artistic processes. The effort to translate large works into small formats on glassware brought artistic ambition to the work of leading glass engravers and led to unique approaches and ideas. This resulted in the creation of distinctive hand-crafted works comparable to their models.
