Grendees of Ptrague art exhibition in the early 20th century
This paper traces three exhibitions of internationally renowned painters - Giovanni Segantini, Arnold Böcklin and Ignacio Zuloaga - organized by Krasoumná jednota (Fine Arts Associaton) in Prague in the first years of the 20th century. In this way the association reacted to the competing exhibition ventures organized at that time in the Czech capital, particularly by the new associations of artists. A survey of the period press revealed the lack of interest on the part of the Volné směry (Free Directions) journal, published by one of these new associations (Spolek výtvarných umělců Mánes - Mánes Society of Visual Artists) in exhibitions organized by Krasoumna Jednota. These exhibitions received positive acclaim, especially in Moderní revue, the most radical cultural periodical of the time. The German-language periodicals then ignored these exhibitions, because they restricted themselves to reporting on the work of Bohemian German authors.
