Rural Architecture in the 19th Century in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia: Folk or Rural
Understanding the concept of folk architecture and construction is changing rapidly over the past decades especially among experts, who study this form of folklore expression. What is the reason behind this change and where does it come from? The essay summarizes the development of this expert term over the course of the last two centuries and at the beginning of the new millennium, especially from the 1880s going forward, where the interest in rural construction grew significantly, up to the hypotheses of authors who have examined this topic over the past few decades. The change in the way the concept is interpreted is closely related to the results of the research gradually published during the 1990s, which focuses on the structure of fire prevention regulation and construction directives of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century.
