A Female Artist in the Context of the Industrial World

pp. 81–88 (Czech), summary 89 (English)

The foundation of museums and schools of decorative arts and schools allowed the
emancipating female artists to enter the sphere of art education. They became
designers of machine production, as shown by the case of Marie Kirschnerová, a Czech
German, although in the area of craft work, following Renáta Tyršová, traditional art
sources have been respected, considering it to be handicraft. Handmade artwork was
developed in the Women's Production Association, but also in the women's section
of Dürerbund (for instance Hermína Laukotová). On the other hand, there is the
School of Decorative Arts in Prague as one of the first institutions where a woman
could acquire professional art education (Anna Boudová), subsequently finding a job
as an industrial teacher.
